UH Lakewood Medical Center

We also offer psychiatric inpatient care, and we deliver therapeutic services through our community outreach clinics. Job Description
Pharmacy Technician III is a highly skilled, technical role with consistent demonstration of competency and performance at an advanced level. Pharmacy technicians will work with pharmacists and pharmacy leadership to support efficient organizational processes. Pharmacy technicians will problem solve and assist with workflow optimization to ensure effective patient care under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Detailed responsibilities vary by advanced role.
Improve patient care experience through provision of prior authorization services
Complete prior authorization forms, negotiate authorization status with insurers, and track status of prescription approval
Communicate effectively with clinic staff through PowerChart messages and faxes to facilitate timely completion of prior authorization forms
Minimize clinic-administered medication denials
Expedite clinic workflow and enhance patient care by preventing therapy interruptions due to insurance issues in conjunction with clinic staff
Assist clinic staff with preparing letters of medical necessity and coordinating peer-to-peer conferences
Identify opportunities to standardize clinic communication processes through collaboration with clinic staff
Identify opportunities to lower the cost of medications for patients through the use of copay cards, discounts, or other appropriate mechanisms
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent credential
Demonstrated 2+ years of relevant work experience
Has successfully passed the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and maintains certification
Technical skills required to operate pharmacy systems
Verbal communications skills required to discuss work issues and tasks with co-workers
If driving is a requirement for the employee, he/she must meet the requirements specified in the Fleet Driving Safety and Compliance Policy and must continue to meet these requirements as a condition of employment
Demonstrated experience with pharmacy operations, supply chain, prior authorizations, customer service, or sterile compounding based on the role
Preferred
Detailed understanding of processes based on advanced role: Pharmacy Supply Chain, Pharmacy Operations, Health System IT Operations, Prior Authorizations, Health System reimbursement and finance, Sterile Compounding (hazardous and non-hazardous)
Completion of multiple PTCB certifications
3+ years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician II or equivalent
Ability to take initiative in follow-up and problem solving
Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, including Microsoft Excel
