The New York Post is seeking a sharp, creative, and fast-thinking Temporary Copy Editor (Wed-Sun, nights) to join our print team. This is a rare opportunity to help craft the bold, witty, and unforgettable headlines that make Post front pages legendary. If you have a keen editorial eye, a knack for punchy phrasing, and the ability to make every word count—under deadline pressure—this is the role for you.

Responsibilities:

  1. Write engaging, clever, and attention-grabbing headlines that embody The Post’s unmistakable voice.
  2. Craft sharp and creative captions that enhance the impact of images.
  3. Edit and proofread articles, features, and columns for clarity, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style while preserving the Post’s unique tone.
  4. Ensure accuracy and consistency in facts, names, and details across all content.
  5. Make seamless trims to copy without losing the power of the story.
  6. Collaborate closely with writers, editors, and designers to bring stories to life.
  7. Work quickly and efficiently under intense deadlines to ensure stories are polished, precise, and publication-ready.
  8. Assist with additional editorial tasks as needed to support the print newspaper team.

Requirements:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  2. At least five years of newsroom copy-editing experience, specifically in print journalism.
  3. A razor-sharp sense of humor and a talent for crafting memorable headlines.
  4. Deep familiarity with AP style and The New York Post’s editorial standards.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  6. Exceptional attention to detail, with a strong grasp of grammar and style.
  7. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure newsroom environment.

Note: The New York Post adheres to a hybrid work model. This role will be expected to report into the office 4 days per week (subject to change depending on business needs).

Expected Duration: 2 months with the potential for extension

Shift: Wed-Sun - 4pm-12am, Saturday - 2pm-10pm
