DESIGNER / GRAPHIC ARTIST - Accessories

A leading New York importer selling major retailers throughout North America for over 60 years is seeking a full-time in-office designer/graphic artist for its Infant & Toddler division.

Requirements:

  1. 3 - 5 years in infant/toddler accessory design and graphic experience. Cut & sew knowledge is a must.
  2. Knowledge of the infant/toddler market: understanding how to design products & recognizing the limitations, while creating exceptional product at a price point that meets all guidelines.
  3. Proficiency in Mac Software: Adobe Creative Suite- Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Excel skills is a big plus.
  4. Work with the design director on all projects.
  5. Strong creative verbal and communication skills.
  6. Strong typographic & layout skills.
  7. Strong skills in tech pack files.
  8. Be able to work with private label accounts and licensed brands, and adhere to their protocols.
  9. Experience working and communicating with the overseas factories on development & production.
  10. Ability to shift priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  11. Strong follow up skills.
  12. Basic packaging skills.
  13. Works well with others.
  14. Sensitive to production timeline and shipment schedules.
  15. Must be legally able to work in the USA.

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with DD to design infant and toddler accessories, dress up sets and basic apparel pieces.
  2. Interpret trend direction utilizing market research, trend services, the internet and shopping competition for new ideas.
  3. Work with the sales team on product and design development.
  4. Create tech packs and packaging guidelines for all products.
  5. Daily email communication with overseas vendors & factories on development follow up.
  6. Evaluation and comments of all prototypes, components, pre-pro & TOP samples.
  7. Follow up with customer and/or license approvals.
  8. Track and organize all approvals on WIP reports.
  9. Work with the production team to ensure the products are well carried out in a timely manner.
  10. Weekly staff meetings to review projects, issues, timelines, etc.
  11. Create seasonal trend boards and presentations.
  12. Attend in-house appointments to present design work & samples.
