Spelman College is hiring: General Assignment Reporter in Atlanta

The Daily Sentinel in Nacogdoches, Texas is seeking an enterprising reporter. The right candidate is smart, curious and has a passion for news-gathering.

We are a state and regional award-winning community newspaper in the Pineywoods of East Texas. We publish two print editions each week, a monthly magazine, and produce stories for our website five to six days a week. We are seeking a reporter who can help us continue our mission of local community journalism and help make our storytelling attractive to today’s readers.

Responsibilities

Beat responsibilities could include a wide variety of news and features ranging from local schools and community events to investigative reporting. Candidates must have a strong interest in community reporting and a passion for telling engaging stories.

Qualifications

1. You must be comfortable conducting in-person, virtual, and phone interviews.
2. Be well-versed in AP style.
3. Have basic photography skills.
4. Be social media savvy.
5. Video skills are a strong plus.
6. Page design skills or a willingness to learn design is a plus.
7. Drivers’ license, auto insurance, and a good driving record are required.
8. At least two years of experience in journalism is preferred, but we will train the right recent graduate.
