Maine Legislature's Law and Legislative Reference Library

Range: $6,666.67 - $7,916.67 per month, commensurate with experience.

Range: $24-$29 per hour, based on relevant work experience and education.

The Maine Legislature’s Law and Legislative Reference Library, a nonpartisan staff office of the Legislative Council, is seeking applicants for the position of full-time SENIOR LAW LIBRARIAN.

Responsibilities

  • This position performs complex and diverse legal and legislative research with a high degree of skill, accuracy, and independence.
  • It also manages several of the library’s physical and digital collections with little to no supervision.
  • Employees in this position work in our library in Augusta, are enthusiastic about public service and supporting the work of the Maine legislature, and conduct themselves in a highly confidential, professional, and nonpartisan manner.
  • Overtime may be required during the legislative session.

Qualifications

  • A successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree of library science;
  • At least 3 years of experience as a research law librarian;
  • Proven competence using online legal research platforms and print legal sources;
  • Demonstrated commitment to public service;
  • Attention to detail; and
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Benefits

The bi-weekly dollar values of some State-paid benefits for full-time employees include $14.92 for dental insurance; 13.29% of employee’s pay towards retirement; and at least 85% ($466.54) of health insurance premiums.
