Job Overview: Global Urban Strategies (Global) seeks a highly motivated Senior Grant Writer to join our growing team. This individual will work alongside other Senior Grant Writers to develop grant proposals for various funding organizations. The ideal candidate will have experience with technical writing, strong verbal and written communication abilities, and a deep understanding of local government structures and general grant writing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Update grant matrices for core clients to include a current list of funding opportunities.
  2. Review and create detailed breakdowns of Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs), outlining key dates, application requirements, and funder priorities.
  3. Assist the Director of Grant Acquisition and Senior Grant Writer in developing grant applications, including project narratives, budgets, timelines, letters of support, standard forms, and other required documents.
  4. Review Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to determine their relevance and alignment with our capabilities and goals, then break down the RFP and outline the proposal structure according to the provided instructions.
  5. Utilize the narrative library to pull existing content and draft additional content as needed.
  6. Complete attachments for bid submissions, ensuring all necessary organizational and project details are clearly and correctly provided according to the client's specifications.
  7. Update RFP matrices to actively keep our team informed on all RFPs being pursued.
  8. Maintain records of department-related documents, including drafts, final submissions, relevant research, and reports; update databases or tracking systems with grant statuses and deadlines.
  9. Participate in team meetings and strategy sessions to enhance grant acquisition and improve internal processes and documentation practices.
  10. Assist with administrative tasks and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public administration, political science, business administration, or a related field; OR in lieu of a degree, four years of relevant experience, which may include internships, volunteer work, and/or professional employment relevant to the job responsibilities above.
  2. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  3. Proficiency in conducting thorough research and synthesizing complex information.
  4. Excellent organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  5. Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with team members.
  6. Ability to adapt writing styles and proposal components to meet the specific needs of different funders and projects.
  7. Proficiency with office software, databases, and grant management systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Understanding of the grant application process, particularly for government grants, and familiarity with legal and financial regulations involved.
  2. Experience in grant writing, fundraising, or project management and/or experience in a consulting environment.
  3. Experience in developing and structuring programs, ideally tailored to meet specific objectives and outcomes.
  4. Experience engaging with and supporting marginalized groups, demonstrating sensitivity and understanding of the challenges these communities face.
  5. Understanding of initiatives aimed at promoting anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion within organizations or communities.
  6. Knowledge of social justice and racial equity issues, including historical and systemic inequalities that affect various groups.
  7. One year of technical writing or grant writing for government subsidies.
  8. Understanding of government structure.
