The Countryman Press, an imprint of W.W. Norton & Company, publishes a vibrant list of books in the areas of cooking and lifestyle, health and fitness, outdoor/nature/gardening, parenting, pet care, and travel. The press seeks a high-energy, proactive marketing assistant to work with the marketing manager to promote Countryman books to broad and targeted audiences through innovative campaigns. The position requires close collaboration with authors and their brands, editors, the sales department, and publicity.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the marketing manager in creating and implementing targeted marketing campaigns for the Countryman list, with a focus on 10 to 12 high-profile titles a year
  • Help maximize discoverability of the books with keyword and metadata management, as well as the use of graphics, photos, and other uploads on book detail pages.
  • Familiarity with Canva or similar graphic design platforms to design digital assets
  • Communicate and work with authors and brands directly.
  • Participate in author and agent meetings; take minutes and follow up with action items where relevant.
  • Prepare marketing materials, including promotional copy, letters, and digital assets.
  • Coordinate mailings, including writing letters, developing mailing lists, and facilitating shipments.
  • Work with in-house publicist to ensure that their efforts are integrated smoothly and comprehensively into the overall marketing plan for each title and for each season.
  • Play a supporting role in social media outreach, including executing plans, posting, running giveaways, and contributing creative ideas.
  • Provide general administrative assistance which could include maintaining book metadata, pulling lists, maintaining marketing databases, submitting website updates, award submissions, expense and budget reporting, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Employment eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
  • Must be able to work full business hours.
  • Must be able to work from Norton’s New York City headquarters.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Excellent communication, design, and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and general computer skills.
  • Basic design skills, general knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Canva Pro, and HTML a plus.

  • Annual compensation for this position is $48,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
