Overview
The primary purpose is to provide all communications for USF Police and Public Safety personnel in their day-to-day activities. This position must be staffed at all times, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
MINIMUM:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Must pass the FCIC/NCIC certification course within 6 months and maintain certification thereafter. Additionally, possession of a Department of Health 911 Telecommunications Certification within six months of hire, with ongoing maintenance, is required.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
- 4 years of directly relevant experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree.
- 6 years of directly relevant experience may substitute for a master's degree.
PREFERRED:
- Possession of a current certification as a State of Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator.
- Three or more years' experience as a Public Safety Telecommunicator for law enforcement or emergency operations.
- State certification on NCIC/FCIC computer system.

The role involves monitoring the activities of Law Enforcement Officers, Investigators, and non-sworn officers; dispatching personnel to emergency and service calls; and coordinating emergency response services (Tampa Police, Tampa Fire Department). Responsibilities include inputting and transmitting call information, checking records, monitoring various systems, and dispatching security and emergency personnel as needed. The position requires operating various communication and emergency systems proficiently, including Hillsborough County's 911 system, FCIC/NCIC, and others. The dispatcher will also handle routine calls, assist with campus event scheduling, monitor security systems, and disseminate criminal activity information on a 24-hour basis. Additionally, the role involves training new dispatchers and supporting investigative and operational activities.
