A Brief Overview:
The Unit Supervisor supports the execution of FirstBank’s Customer Financial Investigation Process focused primarily on Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations. Provides support to the BSA Management mainly through direct supervision over the execution of the Compliance Specialists’ duties and responsibilities within the BSA Unit, such as Customer Account activities, communicating via email with the Business Units, documenting Memos, participating in systems implementations testing, for both BSA and Business Units, as well as writing step-by-step guidelines and amending written procedures when appropriate.
What You’ll Do:
Participate in and contribute to the execution of the Bank’s BSA/AML and OFAC Compliance Program, ensuring alignment with corporate compliance and strategic direction and recommend actions based on internal and external industry developments within area of responsibility.
Distribute investigation cases and tasks to Compliance Specialists under supervision.
Monitor daily production and report progress on a weekly and monthly basis, ensuring compliance with investigation regulatory time frames.
Review investigation cases submitted by the Compliance Specialists for quality, completeness, and documentation requirements on a daily basis.
Validate Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) against internal documentation and supporting evidence for accuracy prior to filing with FinCEN.
Apply analytic techniques to complex cases to make logical recommendations to Compliance Specialists.
Provide independent support to Compliance Specialists with workflow and administrative tasks as they arise.
Reassign investigation cases as needed and prepare weekly work plans.
Hold periodic staff meetings to discuss objectives and progress with Compliance Specialists under supervision.
Act in a lead capacity providing daily guidance and expertise to ensure compliance with Bank’s policies and procedures, training, and continuous coaching to Compliance Specialists.
Identify areas for continuous improvement through verbal and written communications to support the development of Compliance Specialists.
Other Responsibilities:
Support management in special requests when needed.
Identify and escalate matters requiring management attention to the Assistant Manager.
Assist with BSA/AML and OFAC compliance examinations, and/or compliance audits or reviews.
Help Management with responses related to Corporate Internal Audit Department (CIAD) requests.
Assist Management with the implementation of action plans to address internal audit recommendations, as required.
Produce the first draft of the Monthly Relevant Cases Report for the Board of Directors.
Serve as liaison between the Business, Operations, and BSA Units in matters related to Financial Investigations.
Collaborate with systems implementations testing, and write step-by-step guidelines and amend written procedures as needed.
Participate in and support corporate BSA/AML and OFAC compliance training for the Unit and other Bank Units and departments, its subsidiaries, and affiliates, as needed.
Responsible for performance management and overall development and operations within the assigned tasks of the Groups of Specialists under supervision. Evaluate performance, learning, and capability to identify special training needs to increase team efficiency.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Banking/Accounting/Criminal Justice or related field is required.
Minimum 3 years performing relevant regulatory compliance functions in the banking industry, and knowledge of BSA/AML and OFAC laws and regulations.
Prior experience working in a BSA position in the banking industry.
Bilingual candidate, English and Spanish speaking and writing, including the ability to speak, read, and write in both at a collegiate level including the use of business terms.
Ability to analyze complex standards, laws and regulations, and relate those laws to operational procedures, company policies, and industry trends.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) is necessary to complete assigned tasks and projects.
Prior supervisory experience is desired but not required.

Expertise in BSA/AML and OFAC laws and regulations.
Able to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
Strong analytic, problem-solving, organizational, and proofreading skills along with a focused attention to detail and aptitude for high degree of precision and quality.
Maintain and promote a high standard of confidentiality and strong ethical values.
Able to work with a minimum of supervision.
Organization and prioritization skills.
Proficient with applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Sound judgment and proper criteria for establishing priorities correctly.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive material.
Must be able to work on several tasks simultaneously observing excellent quality standards.
Proficient in the Bank’s Core Systems.
