Director of Academic Support ProgramsGeneral Summary:
The Reading and Literacy Learning Specialist is a knowledgeable, experienced, and creative individual committed to inclusive excellence and is the reference person for all faculty and staff who have questions regarding reading and literacy practice. This Learning Specialist is responsible for the oversight of tutoring for individualized and group student learning sessions in the Academic Centers for Enrichment and is responsible for supervising and evaluating reading and writing peer tutors.Duties and Responsibilities:Supervise and evaluate the peer tutors in accordance with the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Guidelines.Provide subject specific expertise and peer tutor training in Reading and Writing.Collaborate with instructors to provide in-class support and professional tutoring for Reading, Writing, and Reasoning classes.Participate in the hiring of reading and writing peer tutors in accordance with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Guidelines.Develop and facilitate workshops for the professional development of peer tutors.Serve as a mentor to peer tutors by providing support, resources, and opportunities for development in their roles.Collaborate and communicate with discipline specific faculty to build academic support partnerships.Provide classroom support by offering workshops on discipline specific topics, study skills, and learning strategies.Provide small group and individualized tutoring to MCC students.Use Navigate to manage student appointments and track user data.Promote ACE Services to the MCC Community through outreach to students, faculty, and student support services.Assist in preparation of the college's application to maintain certification by CRLA.Other duties as assigned.Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Linguistics, or related field of study.Master's degree or coursework in Literacy, Reading Education, or Linguistics, or closely related field; with three (3) years experience and/or training that includes teaching, instructional technology, or program development; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Subject knowledge supported by, or evident in, a combination of experience and education in one or more of the following areas: Literacy, Reading, ELL.Strong understanding of English syntax and morphology.Experience in tutoring at the secondary or post-secondary level.Excellent tutoring and classroom support skills, especially for college reading and composition, with ability to differentiate tutoring and support based on student needs.Knowledge of tutoring techniques and learning strategies.Knowledge of small group and peer tutoring methodologies.Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with community college students.College Reading and Learning (CRLA) certified or knowledge of program requirements.Salary Range:
$64,292 is the starting salary for a Grade 5 position with a Master's degree; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.Location:
Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed.Expected Start Date:
