Overview
Must be able to work nights and weekends if necessary in the Adult Services Department of the Main Library.Serves as a Department Head, and attends meetings when requested by the Library Director.Collaborates with other staff members as requested for special projects.Participate in Downtown Lynchburg community activities for marketing purposes.When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises assigned support and professional staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Coordinate with the Adult Services Supervisor regarding staffing the Branch.QUALIFICATIONS

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEMaster's degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited library school required; minimum 3-5 years of professional library experience preferably in an urban setting; 3 years supervisory experience in a public library strongly preferred.Salary is negotiable based on qualifications.LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Second language highly desirable.MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.REASONING ABILITYAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.INTERPERSONAL SKILLSSolid interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills, required for working with citizens, vendors, and other City employees.Other Requirements
Depending on assignment, possession of valid driver's license issued by Commonwealth of Virginia and acceptable driving record according to City criteria may be required.Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.Must be eligible to obtain library certification from the State of Virginia within 90 days.Physical Demands
