SUMMARY:
AIP is looking for an Editor, Specialist to join our Physics Today Team.
Physics Today, the flagship publication of the American Institute of Physics, is the most influential and closely followed physics magazine in the world, with more than 100,000 magazine readers across the globe and 150,000 monthly website visitors. Physics Today's mission is to be a unifying influence on the physical sciences by cultivating a shared understanding, appreciation, and sense of belonging among physical scientists that bridges disciplinary boundaries.
Physics Today is seeking a full-time Editor with a firm understanding of the modern digital communications landscape, strong storytelling skills, and insatiable curiosity to be the lead editor for our digital communication channels, including our social media presence and our email newsletters. In that role, you will additionally write news and feature articles for our website and magazine, edit feature articles, and contribute other content.
You will collaborate closely with your fellow editors, our Digital Products Manager, and other teams at AIP to develop innovative, relevant, and engaging content, to glean actionable audience insights, and help and implement our overall editorial strategy.
Living up to our mission requires that we bring our content to our audience members, wherever they may be. You will help develop and deliver the digital content that is central to that success.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Support, develop, and implement Physics Today’s digital editorial strategy.
- Craft and schedule social media posts tied to recent online PT content, archival articles, current events, and other relevant topics, and help define PT’s voice on various platforms.
- Coordinate other editors’ social media contributions.
- Help develop and produce engaging email newsletters that will deliver on our mission, build brand recognition, and drive audience engagement.
- Identify opportunities to refine and expand PT’s portfolio of digital offerings.
- Track and analyze relevant performance measures and incorporate gleaned insights into PT’s overall editorial strategy.
- Create relevant, engaging news stories and features for the Physics Today website and magazine.
- Develop and edit feature articles by subject-matter experts.
- Contribute to the overall editorial effort at Physics Today.
- Stay abreast of trends in the digital communications landscape.
- Network and interact with the physical sciences community at conferences and other events.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- A graduate degree in physics or related field; a PhD is preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience in scientific writing and editing, social media, or marketing.
- Extensive familiarity with social media outlets, analytics, and strategy.
- Demonstrable talent for clear and engaging storytelling.
- Ability to work well with others, both internal and external to the organization.
- Ability to multitask, handle multiple assignments and priorities, and meet deadlines.

COMPENSATION: $77,440.00 - $85,184.00

AIP embraces a flexible hybrid work environment to balance in-person collaborative work with remote work. The team works in a flexible, hybrid schedule and reports to our offices in College Park, Maryland and Washington, DC, as needed. Employees are required to reside in the DC Metro regions of Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC.
