Assistant Professor in Communication Studies
The Department of Communication Studies at Indiana University South Bend invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies in the area of interpersonal/relational communication to begin August 1, 2025. We seek a teacher-scholar with excellence in teaching across a variety of contexts.
The Department of Communication Studies is a community of teacher scholars dedicated to providing frameworks for personal and professional achievement at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our mission is to highlight diverse perspectives that inspire students to communicate ethically in local, global, and virtual communities.
The department offers a B.A. degree in Communication Studies and an IU Online Collaborative Graduate Certificate in Communication Studies. The B.A. degree includes three distinct tracks: Relational Communication & Social Interaction, Journalism and Digital Media, and Public Relations and Strategic Communication.
The full-time load (100% FTE) is 12 credit hours (typically four courses) each fall and spring semester, with one course (25% FTE) reassigned time for scholarly and creative activities following university & campus policies. Faculty teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Faculty may also be required to teach evening, weekend, off-site, and/or online courses. Summer teaching is voluntary and compensated separately. Faculty are expected to engage in service activities, including participation in faculty governance.
