Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The mission of the Department of Language and Literature at North Carolina Central University is to engage students in languages, cultures, literatures, linguistics, and writing. We foster students’ analytical and creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and communication strategies to prepare students for their responsibilities in civic and professional life.
Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to teach four courses per semester in English Composition and Literature.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching; Record of department and/or university service; Demonstrable promise of scholarship and research in English Studies.
Ph.D. in English or a related field
Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies:
- Instructional: Teach four (4) courses per semester; hold ten (10) office hours per week; prepare for class sessions; grade and provide feedback on student work.
- Research: Maintain a robust research agenda, including attending and presenting at professional conferences, publishing peer-reviewed work in academic journals and/or books.
- Public Service: Attend Department meetings, convocations, and commencement ceremonies; participate in department and college committees as assigned.
