Base pay range: $16.00/hr - $16.00/hr
Position Summary

This person will serve as the receptionist for the Department of Communication and provide administrative support to at least five full-time faculty and several adjunct professors. Responsibilities include managing a staff of 10+ students who act as departmental TAs and lab monitors, primarily working from 4:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. most days. This is a full-time, 9-month position with benefits such as retirement contributions and paid leave.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcome visitors entering the department.
- Perform general administrative duties for the department chair.
- Assist faculty as needed, including running errands and preparing course materials.
- Manage inventory, office equipment, and departmental communications.
- Coordinate room reservations, student visits, and transportation for field trips.
- Lead hiring, scheduling, and discipline processes for student workers.
- Maintain records of lab/studio use and equipment loans.
- Coordinate with marketing for departmental materials and ticket sales.
- Assist with answering the university switchboard when needed.

- Strong communication skills, including phone etiquette.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Office, Datatel, and Astra (training available).
Additional Information
Supervisory Responsibilities: Hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising approximately 10 student workers.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Work Environment: Desk near building entrance in an open lobby area.
Salary: Starting at $16.00/hour.
