Position Summary
The Assistant Technical Director (ATD) provides hands-on technical leadership and event facility care for school chapels, church services, special events, and external rentals at Christ Presbyterian Church and Academy (CPC/CPA) as part of the Shared Services team. This role manages audio, video, lighting, and livestream systems in the Sanctuary, Soli Deo Center, and across the campus.
The ATD thrives in a culture that values continuous learning, growth, and putting people first. A detail-oriented self-starter, the ATD ensures every event—whether a student chapel or outside rental—is executed smoothly, with excellence and care. The ATD also mentors students, PT staff, and volunteers while working closely with faculty, staff, and external clients.
Key Responsibilities
Weekly Chapel & Event Leadership
- Lead setup and operation for Lower, Middle, and Upper School chapels, 3–4 times per week.
- Collaborate with worship leaders, teachers, pastors, and students on support needs for audio, video, and lighting.
- Serve as CPC production manager approximately one Sunday per month
- Support special events such as Lower School Christmas and Grandparents Days, Fine Arts programming, advancement events and worship nights.
Facility Stewardship
- Maintain production readiness of the Soli Deo Center, Sanctuary, Blackbox Theater, and other event spaces.
- Conduct regular inspections for equipment, safety, cleanliness, and organization.
- Coordinate repairs and maintenance with shared-services teammates and Arts Department.
- Keep storage, control rooms, and backstage areas clean and organized.
- Assist with annual maintenance planning and budgeting.
Student Technician Mentorship
- Train and lead students in sound mixing, lighting, cue calling, and video operation.
- Encourage a servant-hearted approach to technical ministry.
- Supervise student crews during events, offering real-time coaching and leadership development.
System Maintenance & Administration
- Maintain and troubleshoot AV systems campus-wide, including self-service technology in meeting spaces.
- Keep documentation up to date, including cue sheets, system settings, and training guides.
Venue Management for External Rentals
- Schedule and manage technical aspects of theater rentals to outside groups.
- Conduct pre-event walkthroughs and plan technical support with renters.
- Schedule and supervise lighting, sound, and stage technicians for rental events.
- Provide excellent customer service to ensure positive renter experiences.
- Oversee post-event teardown, cleanup, and reset of spaces.
Requirements:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree .
- Minimum 3 years experience in live event technical production, ideally in worship or education.
Skills & Abilities
- Proficient with audio consoles (Yamaha), lighting consoles (MA2 and 3), video and livestream platforms (e.g., ProPresenter, QLab).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially with documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Customer-service oriented with professionalism in managing rentals.
