E2 Consulting Engineers, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electric Distribution Designer/Planner to support San Diego Gas & Electric's (SDG&E) Franchise and New Business Engineering and Design group. The position is responsible for providing engineering, design, and coordination services for new customer connections, franchise relocations, and system improvement projects in SDG&E's service territory. You will work closely with SDG&E project managers, designers, field personnel, and customers to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable standards. The successful candidate will report to the distribution engineering manager. Responsibilities
Develop and prepare engineering designs, construction drawings, and supporting documentation for electric and gas distribution projects related to new business and franchise relocations.
Review project scopes, site plans, utility maps, and customer requirements to determine design approach and material specifications. Coordinate with SDG&E engineering teams, construction crews, local municipalities, permitting agencies, and third-party stakeholders to facilitate project approvals and scheduling. Support estimating and material ordering activities by preparing bills of materials and cost estimates. Perform technical reviews to ensure designs comply with SDG&E standards, applicable codes, and safety requirements. Track project status and maintain accurate records in SDG&E's work management systems. Address design revisions, field changes, and as-built documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Participate in regular project meetings and provide updates on design progress, issues, and risk mitigation plans. Provide technical guidance and quality assurance for junior designers or drafters as needed.
Qualifications
Required Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, Drafting/Design, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. 3+ years of experience supporting utility engineering and design projects (electric or gas distribution preferred). Familiarity with SDG&E standards, General Orders (GO 95, GO 128), and CPUC regulations strongly desired. Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other design software. Understanding of permitting processes, right-of-way considerations, and municipal coordination. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with internal teams and external stakeholders. Preferred Experience with utility customer connection processes, franchise relocations, or public works projects in California. Knowledge of SDG&E's work management and GIS platforms (e.g., SAP, ArcGIS). Prior experience preparing electrical load calculations and service plans. Pay band $80,000 - $100,000 Entry-level or Associate Designer $101,000 - $130,000 Experience designers $131,000+ Highly specialized or lead roles with project management duties.

Salary range for this position is $80,000 - $130,000. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill level, education, experience, and working environment. Work Environment/Physical Demands
