About Bauer Askew Architecture:
Bauer Askew Architecture, pllc is a Nashville-based design firm known for creating meaningful, lasting spaces that enhance the way people learn, live, worship, and gather. Our portfolio includes a diverse range of project types, from schools, libraries, and churches to civic and high-end residential commissions. We are committed to timeless design, thoughtful collaboration, and building strong relationships with our clients and communities.
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Interior Designer to lead interior design efforts within our growing team. This role will work closely with both interior designers and architects across a diverse range of project types, including education, religious, commercial, and residential environments. We’re looking for a creative, self-motivated professional — a talented designer who is detail-oriented, eager to learn and contribute, and who shares our commitment to design excellence, community, and social responsibility. This is an in-person position based in our Nashville / Music Row studio, ideal for someone passionate about crafting meaningful interior environments that enhance purpose-driven architecture. The position offers opportunities for professional growth and advancement within a collaborative, mission-minded studio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with architects, consultants, and clients to develop interior design concepts that align with project goals and firm standards.
- Lead interior design development from concept through construction documents and administration across a variety of project types, with emphasis on higher education, K-12 education, and religious facilities.
- Select materials, finishes, furnishings, lighting, and color palettes that reflect the purpose and personality of each space.
- Produce presentations, material boards, and renderings to communicate design ideas as needed.
- Prepare and review detailed construction documents, interior elevations, millwork details, and finish schedules.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and consultants to ensure design integrity throughout execution.
- Maintain knowledge of current interior design trends, building codes, accessibility guidelines, and sustainable design practices.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations to communicate design intent and manage feedback.
- Mentor and support the growth of junior interior designers, providing guidance on design development, technical documentation, and professional best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture from an accredited program.
- 7–12 years of professional interior design experience, preferably within an architectural firm.
- Proven experience with educational, civic, religious, and high-end residential projects.
- Strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and rendering tools such as Enscape, SketchUp, or similar.
- Exceptional understanding of FF&E, space planning, materials, and lighting.
- Clear and confident communication skills, both visual and verbal.
- Strong organizational abilities and experience managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for mentorship and team development.
- NCIDQ certification preferred or actively pursuing.
