JOB DESCRIPTION
WCVB, the ABC affiliate in Needham, MA, has an opening for an experienced Freelance Broadcast Operations Technician. The technician maintains the technical integrity of the station's on-air signals and equipment from acquisition to distribution. Prior experience as a Technical Director is desirable. You will support all station efforts in-house and on remote productions. You will report to the Technical Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
- Operate various technical positions (Technical Directing, robotic cameras, and audio) in control room and on remote productions.
- Master Control operations and Air Assist functions across multiple broadcast platforms.
- Handle ENG Receive acquisition and distribution; familiarity with TVU is a plus.
- Perform Floor Directing in studio and at remote productions.
- Move and handle props and sets during in-house and remote productions, including heavy equipment.
- Maintain the appearance of studios, including cleaning sets and floors.
- Understand and maintain lighting grid and control board, including climbing ladders, changing light bulbs, and adjusting fixtures.
- Dress microphones and IFBs for on-camera appearances.
- Utilize basic multimedia computer skills and current Internet technology, including downloading materials for promos and client spots.
- Assist with various technical needs on remote productions.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Technical Operations Manager.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience working as an operations technician at a commercial television station, with experience operating different broadcast equipment.
- Solid background in operating broadcast television systems and equipment.
- Related military experience will be considered.
