The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:Earned Master’s Degree in Library Media Specialist (Preferred)Current NYS certification as School Library Media Specialist (Required)Experience at the school Library Media Specialist level (Strongly Preferred)Comprehensive understanding of Common Core Learning Standards and NY state assessmentsThe ability and commitment to use technology as an instructional toolUncompromising commitment to continuous improvementBroad experience with a variety of instructional techniquesAbility to differentiate instruction for accelerated and delayed learnersEvidence of strong classroom management skills with age appropriate experiencesFlexibility, enthusiasm, creativity, and willingness to develop programsEvidence of being a team playerAbility to facilitate a library and district resources that support the academic programs in the Lockport City School DistrictEvidence of the ability to collaborate with faculty to design standards based activitiesCommitment to working with all members of the community to accomplish the goals of the districtMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Valid New York State School Library Media Specialist CertificationMasters in Library Studies (MLS preferred)Successful Fingerprint ClearanceSuccessful completion of NYS Educating All Students (EAS) ExamI-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with Immigrations Reform and Control ActCompletion of mandatory training sessionsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:Formal training in the management of a school library media centerSuccessful experience as a classroom teacher or Library Media SpecialistTrained in curriculum development, collaborative planning and instructional designManagement skills applicable to people, program, collection, budget and timeKnowledgeable about resources within and outside the libraryGood organizational and goal setting skillsProficient with using technologyACCOUNTABILITY:The Library Media Specialist reports directly to the Building Principal, Director of Special Education, or in accordance with currently established district and collective bargaining procedures and evaluation criteria.NATURE OF THE POSITION:While performing the duties of this job, the Library Media Specialist manages and administers all aspects of a school library media program and facility. The Library Media Specialist also collaborates with teachers to incorporate informational skills and technological resources into the curriculum.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:Selects, evaluates, acquires, organizes and maintains library materialsProvides staff support in the use of information resources and in the selection and application of informational and instructional technologiesWorks in cooperation with the teachers to design activities, materials, and instruction which promote curriculum integrationIntegrates curriculum needs into the library media programTeaches students to locate, select, analyze, evaluate, interpret and communicate information and ideasTrains and supervises all Library Media Center staff and volunteers in the performance of their dutiesAssists in planning staff developmentAssists the Director of Technology, Data Security and Communications in the evaluation of proposed software purchasesParticipates in the support of technology projectsAssists with all other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or other districtInterested applicants are to submit a letter of interest, resume, a completed application, three letters of reference (signed and dated within the past two years), a copy of all college transcripts and a copy of current NY State certification.
