Lili’uokalani Center (LC):
Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience andgrounded in Hawaiian culture, the new LC will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT's signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital support and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy.
Currently under construction, LC is set to open in Spring of 2025 .
Job Purpose
Under direction from the ' Olino Pathways Team, the Youth Engagement Specialist will support activities and events across program sites, with an emphasis on programming and program development for Lili'uokalani Center (LC). This may include supporting pilot projects, assisting LC staff and partners in developing special events , workshops, and open houses, and providing generalized support to the ' Olino Pathways Team. The Specialist will work directly with youth involved in programming under the direction of the Olino Pathways Team and may also provide administrative support.
Collaborate with the ' Olino Pathways Team to support activities and events across multiple disciplines, including, but not limited to, woodworking, digital fabrication, photography, film, multimedia production, and visual and textile arts.
Work directly with youth involved in programming, providing guidance and support under the Olino Pathways Team's direction.
Assist the ' Olino Pathways Team with program planning and monitoring creative spaces such as the wood shop, fabrication studio (laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC machine), photography and film lab, computer labs, and visual arts and textile studio.
Assist with the opening, closing, and monitoring of facilities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
Support pilot projects in collaboration with partner organizations, contributing to the successful implementation and evaluation of initiatives.
Contribute to developing special events , workshops, and open houses to enhance engagement and participation.
Assist with transportation as needed.
Provide administrative support as needed, ensuring efficient coordination and documentation of program-related activities.
Demonstrate cultural sensitivity, particularly in the context of Lili'uokalani Center, ensuring that programs are culturally relevant .
Assist in collecting relevant data and preparing reports, helping assess the impact and effectiveness of programs.
Other duties:
Contribute to the Trust's success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team and organization results.
Evening and weekend hours are required as needed.
Others as needed and assigned
Assist with outreach efforts to engage the local community and encourage participation in arts programming.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent experience
Capacity to perform frontline work in various settings (schools, public spaces, offices, distressed communities, etc.)
Comfort with youth work, particularly engaging with vulnerable youth
