This is a full-time position located in Augusta. This opportunity allows partial tele-work with management approval.The Associate Director of Communications and Marketing for the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention will develop and execute strategic communications to support public understanding of Maine CDC programs and public health efforts. This position is responsible for directing and coordinating Maine CDC staff in developing internal and external communication plans, strategies, and products. This position coordinates with the DHHS Communications Director and DHHS Press Secretary on high-profile communications and serves as the liaison to a broad range of stakeholders, committees, workgroups, and organizations. This position reports to the Director of the Maine CDC.Core Responsibilities:The core responsibilities of the Associate Director of Communications and Marketing are:Providing writing and editing guidance to the Maine CDC Director and program staffManaging public health awareness and prevention marketing campaigns and contractsDrafting and disseminating talking points, fact sheets, and other communications related to current public health concerns, events, and trendsCoordinating closely with the DHHS Press Secretary, Maine CDC Director, and State Epidemiologist to review, edit, finalize, and approve health advisories related to emerging public health concerns and notificationsDrafting, disseminating, and organizing internal communicationsCoordinating and leading internal agency educational trainings and occasional speaker seriesPerforming research to inform policy and communications decisions by Maine CDC leadershipReviewing staff presentations for intra-agency/department meetings and meetings with stakeholders and partnersWorking in close coordination with the DHHS communications team to redevelop the Maine CDC website and establish web maintenance protocols; oversee regular website maintenanceManaging Maine CDC branding in coordination with the Maine DHHS communications teamWith Maine CDC leadership, reviewing and approving legislative reportsMinimum Qualifications:A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, writing, marketing or related field, and eight (8) years' experience in these fields or a related field. In addition, the successful candidate will have at least two (2) years of supervisory experience in above fields.Preferred candidates
will also have:A master’s in Public Administration.Excellent oral and written communication skillsKnowledge and experience in the public health or a related fieldAbility to manage risk and crisis communicationsAbility to understand and translate public health data and information into consumer-friendly languageExperience conducting and carrying out public information campaigns to influence behavior changeAbility to perform under pressure while working in a team to meet tight deadlinesKnowledge of and experience with social media management platformsDemonstrated skill in applying best practices and standards for health communication, and information design.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partnersKnowledge of and experience with website development and maintenanceProject management experienceApplication Information:Please submit all documents or files in PDF format.For additional information about this position
