Job Title:
Branding Iron Online Editor-in-Chief
Job Purpose:
To provide overall supervision of the Branding Iron Online publication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend weekly meetings with the Branding Iron editor and the Broadcast manager.
- The online editor is required to work in the office no less than 10 hours each week. The schedule must be posted and followed, with at least three hours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Ensure Branding Iron articles and photographs are uploaded to the website by 8 a.m. daily. Coverage of sporting events on weekends should be posted by midnight of the event day. Breaking news should be posted as soon as possible, with arrangements made for assistants to post if the editor is unavailable.
- Work with the BI Online content sub-editor to post related multimedia content, including photo galleries, SoundSlides, audio, video, podcasts, etc.
- Coordinate with Student Media advertising sales staff for timely publication and updates of paid advertising.
- Delegate work to assistants but retain ultimate responsibility for content timeliness.
- Manage and maintain the Branding Iron social media accounts.
- Attend Student Media Board meetings as an ex-officio member.
- Serve as a liaison to adviser, sales manager, production coordinator, and business manager.
- Provide a written Editorial Policy to the Student Media Board at the first fall meeting.
- Oversee the operations of online production and deadlines.
- Participate in active recruitment during class visits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Full-time student
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Knowledge of web design software and techniques
- Basic audio and video editing skills
- Experience in newspaper writing, including news stories
- Availability to start on August 18, 2025
- Availability for publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesdays nights
- Availability on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for training
Desired Qualifications:
- Supervisory experience
- Understanding of good newspaper storytelling and editorial content
- Prior newspaper experience
- Knowledge of AP style or willingness to learn
