Position Overview

This position is posted on a continuous basis and may close without notice. The County of Volusia is seeking Student Special Workers for the Library Services Division. Depending on availability, positions may be located on the East Side (Daytona, Ormond, New Smyrna, Port Orange, or Edgewater) or West Side (DeLand, Lake Helen, Orange City, Deltona, or Debary) of Florida. Responsibilities include shelving library materials, checking books in and out, and assisting with general library clerical duties. Candidates must be active high school or college students.

Note

These are temporary, part-time positions - 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Perform library functions such as charging/discharging library items, material retrieval, shelving, shelf reading, searching for reserved or overdue materials, etc.
• May be assigned to other county locations based on operational needs.
• Attend work on a regular and consistent basis.
• Adhere to Federal, State, County, and Local ordinances.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Must be an active high school or college student and at least 16 years old. College students must be enrolled full-time (Spring semester - minimum 12 credit hours or Summer semester - minimum 9 credit hours). Must pass a required background check. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment, and within 30 days, must obtain and maintain a Florida driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of basic shelving techniques, numerical sorting, and alphabetization.
• Knowledge of basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of basic customer service skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, volunteers, and the public.
• Ability to work under stressful conditions.
• Ability to interact effectively with others.
• Must be able to relocate to other county locations based on operational needs.

ADA Requirements

Physical Demands: Medium, repetitive work. Ability to see, hear, listen, talk; detailed finger dexterity; visual acuity for fine print; lift and push 25+ pounds; bend, reach, kneel, crouch, stretch, twist, climb; stand for long periods.

Environmental Demands: Inside work.

Mental Demands: Ability to read complex materials, write reports, analyze data, communicate complex ideas, and perform mathematical functions.
