Our Greater Boston area client is looking for a Packaging Specialist with 3+ years of experience for an immediate long-term contract; this role is onsite two days a week. You'll be working with a Sr. Packaging Specialist and strong packaging production skills and layout skills are a must for this role. You'll be working on packaging for home products and gifts.
Overview
The Packaging Designer is an integral member of a cross-functional team responsible for delivering trend-forward brand packaging solutions that enable the evolution of our brands across global divisions. As the creative force behind packaging and branding development in selected categories, you will oversee supplier relationships to ensure quality and deadlines are met. Collaboration with Product Development and Buyers is essential to identify and create successful brand packaging. Experience working on packaging for home decor items such as candles, labels, and packaging is highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the creation of trend-forward brand packaging across various home categories.
- Partner with product development and merchandising teams to meet lifestyle needs by product category and influence design decisions.
- Collaborate with Sr. Product Development Managers, Trend Teams, and Divisional Managers to develop compelling brand packaging.
- Ensure packaging quality through established approval processes and meet all deadlines.
- Create and direct brand packaging for a variety of products, supporting home decor specifically.
- Prioritize and direct designers, freelancers, interns, and contractors in design and content creation.
- Manage the entire process from conception to shelf, including approvals and overseeing execution before press and delivery. Communicate with product development and regulatory teams throughout the process.
- Adhere strictly to T&A and deadlines, establishing acceptable tolerances in print, color, and construction while seeking efficiency improvements.
- Manage photography and styling requirements for packaging, ensuring quality and timeline adherence.
- Collaborate with legal and trademark teams to research and meet all legal and trademark requirements for brand names.
- Perform other special projects as assigned.
Skill Requirements:
- BFA or related degree in design preferred.
- At least 3 years of design-related experience.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams or designers.
- Proven ability to guide stakeholders through the design process, maintaining brand integrity.
- Ability to think across multiple platforms including product, merchandising, and new communication forms.
- Management experience to influence, drive change, and realize vision.
- Deep knowledge of design and cultural trends for cohesive solutions.
- Excellent sense of color, typography, and style.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects, and work under pressure.
- Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and office programs.
