Technical Director (Structural Engineering)
to serve as Technical Lead for Alternative Delivery Projects in our
Herndon, Virginia
office. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in procurement of transit, highway and infrastructure projects using Alternative Delivery methods (P3, DB, CM/GC). The successful candidate will also have extensive experience delivering traditional projects (project specific and on-call task orders) for Federal, State, and municipal clients.
Your Impact
Lead proposal preparation and business development activities.
Lead projects with all aspects of Transportation Design from conceptual and preliminary engineering to final design.
Responsible for maintaining schedule, budget, quality and profitability of assigned projects.
Coordinate with other design disciplines.
Prepare plans, specifications, and bid packages.
Ensure that production of specifications, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.
Coordinate with internal and external clients.
Create effective long-term client/contractor relationships.
Provide verbal and/or written inputs to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.
Support business development initiatives.
Represent WSP's alternative delivery and structural engineering capabilities in assigned locations, markets, and at industry associations.
Mentor staff-level engineers to support their growth and professional development.
Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff.
Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide “trusted advisor” service and future ready solutions for clients.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
12+ years of relevant post education experience in the design and preparation of construction contract documents for transportation projects.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia.
Understanding and familiarity with AASHTO and VDOT Design Guidelines and Standards.
Proficiency in design software including Larsa, Midas, MDX, CSI Bridge, STAAD, OpenBridge Designer, Descus, Merlin-Dash, Mathcad, and Microstation.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Advanced proficiency with civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
Advanced proficiency with infrastructure design.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Engineering.
Strong relationships with Alternative Delivery project Owners, Clients and Contractors is strongly desired.
