Location: Greenport, NY - client is open to people who will relocate themselves (might have a small stipend to help) Work Schedule: Onsite, five days per week Employment Type: Direct Full-Time Overview: Our client, a local news organization, seeks an experienced, digitally savvy News Editor to lead editorial planning, create / write compelling content, and foster a strong community journalism presence. MUST have Breaking News experience (print and digital) NOT just lifestyle. Key Responsibilities
Oversee editorial planning, setting weekly and daily story budgets Write 2-3 stories per week, including editorials, columns, and features Manage freelancers, ensuring efficiency and quality content Amplify stories on social media to engage a broader audience Produce community journalism in various media formats to build local connections Collaborate with leadership to position the company for long-term success Qualifications
Experienced journalist with strong digital expertise A "player/coach" who leads a team while contributing content Hands-on, adaptable, and capable of managing a small newsroom environment Community-focused, regularly engaging with local businesses and events Degree in Journalism In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data.
