WFTX, the Scripps FOX station in Fort Myers, FL, is hiring a Broadcast Engineer!
The Broadcast Engineer performs preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and operations of video, audio, and radio frequency (RF) systems, including satellite and microwave equipment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Provide world-class customer service to all business partners, internal and external, with a positive “can do” attitude.
- Support, maintain, and install broadcast, RF, and production systems based on Serial Digital Interface (SDI) and Internet Protocol (IP) architectures.
- Set up and enhance software, hardware, server, automation, and workflow systems to enable team productivity and efficiency, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies.
- Collaborate with the news department to develop and support content workflow and systems, including integration of audio/video, cameras, editing, streaming, and content management.
- Manage assets and services using the company's purchasing system, contribute to budgeting, and support business needs.
- Operate, support, and maintain mobile live trucks, including microwave, satellite, cellular bonding, and video/audio equipment, often in confined spaces or on vehicles.
- Resolve complex technical problems independently, often under pressure.
- Design operational improvements and maintain logs and reports as per FCC regulations.
- Utilize proactive monitoring systems to anticipate and address technical issues.
- Update technical documentation post-installation and maintain repair records.
- Research parts and pricing for repairs and procurement.
- Operate studio, news, and control room equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Associates degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred.
- 5+ years of related experience preferred.
- Network certification (Cisco, CompTIA Network+) required.
- SBE certification preferred.
- At least 3 years of broadcast operations experience preferred.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- Knowledge of broadcast and production systems support, including SDI and IP workflows.
- Extensive networking, broadcast automation, and workflow system knowledge.
- Support and engineering experience with transmitters.
- Strong IT and cellular systems knowledge, and interest in emerging technologies.
- Proficiency with server and client OS software, including Active Directory.
- Knowledge of CAD, schematics, mechanical drawings, and manuals.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work independently under pressure.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Availability to travel and work in various weather conditions.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and proof of insurance.
