You will customize and facilitate engaging educational sessions within the College of Engineering classrooms. Additionally, you will help develop and expand C-SED's library of educational resources, including content on the socially engaged design process and case studies in Socially Engaged Engineering Design.The Classroom Facilitator and Educational Content Designer will help deliver C-SED content across multiple undergraduate classrooms and support communicating these materials to external audiences. This work is part of the College of Engineering's Teaching Engineering Equity Center initiative. You will collaborate with the C-SED education team to translate case study content and facilitation materials into a comprehensive Virtual Support Environment (VSE). The VSE is an evolving resource library and training interface designed for instructors and facilitators, making C-SED content accessible to instructors outside the University of Michigan for independent facilitation in their classrooms.You will report to C-SED's Assistant Director of Experiential Learning. It is dynamic and iterative. Socially Engaged Engineering and Design is people centered and incorporates knowledge about the broader social, cultural, economic, and environmental contexts in which engineering work exists and pushes engineers and designers to analyze how power, privilege, and their own identities shape their approach and impact.**About Educational Content at C-SED:**Content on design skills and tools explore different aspects of the socially engaged design process, like the engagement of stakeholders, data gathering and analysis, purposes and forms of prototyping, and problem definition and idea generation. We build educational sessions that combine the discussions of design strategies and techniques, with the active practice on authentic design challenges. These educational sessions systematically highlight the sociotechnical nature of the work of engineers and designers, and considers social, cultural, political, economic, and environmental factors that can completely change the design of solutions.Socially Engaged Engineering Design Case Studies (SEED) are "microhistories" that use an in-depth analysis of a single product, service, event, biography, etc. as an entry point for exploring broader issues of identity, power, and privilege within engineering education and practice. We build our case studies by gathering diverse source materials that include not only academic articles, but also policy briefs, legal documents, news stories, press releases, interviews, social media posts, and more. We synthesize this research to create original readings and workshops based on our faculty partners' course topics and learning goals for students.While a background in engineering or engineering education is beneficial, it is not a requirement. On-site professionals work primarily on campus in Michigan Engineering offices (North Campus) 4-5 days (80-100%) weekly.
