The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
The Marketing Coordinator – Public Relations is responsible for assisting the Public Relations Director and Integrated Marketing Manager in maintaining a positive brand image through organic marketing channels. Further responsibilities include developing awareness through earned and owned communication channels for our expertise in animal care, conservation, and education.

- Support the Public Relations Director and Integrated Marketing Manager by communicating San Antonio Zoological Society’s events, initiatives, animal care, conservation, and education through press releases and media outreach.
- Contribute to the zoo’s marketing channels by developing content for website, email, digital advertisement, and traditional marketing campaigns.
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to source unique stories and content ideas.
- Collaborate with local media outlets, influencers, and other partners to build relationships that expand the zoo’s reach and visibility.
- Assist in planning and executing public relations-focused events such as press conferences and ribbon cuttings.
- Monitor media coverage and report on the zoo’s earned media presence.
- Develop innovative and captivating social media content for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X in alignment with the zoo’s brand tone and messaging.
- Create high-quality copy, photos, and social media videos that showcase the zoo’s animals, events, and community impact to enhance online engagement.
- Respond to social media inquiries and comments in a timely, professional, and positive manner that reflects the zoo’s values.
- Stay up to date with social media trends and platform updates to create relevant content and reach new audiences.
- Support work related to public relations for private and consumer events.
- Contribute to the zoo’s marketing and public relations campaigns from strategy, content creation, and evaluation.
- Create weekly marketing reports by collecting information from multiple sources that will aid in the development of marketing plans.
- Ensure brand consistency in all channels.
- Create prospectus documents and communications for public relations events and initiatives.
- Assist with media, influencers, interviews, presentations, and press conferences.
- Upholds all company policies as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures, Team Member Handbook, and Code of Business Conduct.
- Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the Zoo, showing hospitality to all.
- Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and animals we protect.
- Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:
- One (1) year of proven marketing, communications, or related field preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related business field preferred.
- Must have excellent communications skills, including writing, editing, and public speaking.
- Possess strong knowledge of creative development and branding.
- Possess strong knowledge of cloud-based content management systems.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects with both internal and external clients.
- Must be enthusiastic in a demanding and fast paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and all social media platforms.
- Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
- We enjoy year-round operation for all staff, must be available day, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
