Position Summary and Qualifications:The Department of Music, Theatre & Film at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia seeks an enthusiastic teacher and technical director for the position Assistant Professor of Practice in Theatre/Technical Director for the 2024-25 academic year. The successful candidate will teach courses including Introduction to Theatre, Stagecraft, Production Design, and others that match their qualifications as well as department needs. The ideal candidate will have experience and training in most or all of the following: scenic construction and painting, lighting implementation, sound reinforcement, the use of wireless microphones, and projection execution. The successful candidate will be responsible for management of daily technical operations of Bluett Theatre as well as technical direction for its three mainstage productions in the 2024-25 academic year, including supervising and training student crews in order to ensure operational safety and maintenance of equipment, executing scenic construction, overseeing prop, light and sound crews, maintaining Bluett Theatre calendar and staffing, collaborating with guest artists, executing lighting hangs, and supervising students with lighting and sound equipment. Experience with CAD programs required as well as knowledge of and ability to execute theatrical rigging in a safe and functional manner. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and time-management skills, and the ability to collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and guest artists.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeach classes including but not limited to Introduction to Theatre, Production Design and StagecraftExecute scenic construction for three main stage productions, supervise and train student crews in order to ensure operational safety and maintenance of equipment, oversee prop, light and sound crews,Maintain Bluett Theatre calendar and staffing for university and external events, work with guest artists, execute lighting hangs, and supervise students with lighting and sound equipment.
Secondary Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide assistance for Senior Projects in theatre & musical theatre.
Minimum Qualifications
RequiredMFA in Technical Direction, Theatre Production, Design, or related fieldExperience with CAD programsKnowledge of and ability to execute theatrical rigging in a safe and functional mannerValid driver's licenseAbility to lift 50 pounds
PreferredSuccessful college level teaching experience.Minimum of two years of professional experience as a technical director.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:The successful candidate will work evenings and weekends.
