EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT.
THIS EMPLOYMENT LIST WILL BE USED FOR FUTURE EAST & WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES IN THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT. The purpose of this position is to perform professional level library work involving the independent application of professional library techniques and procedures. Develops and implements a variety of library-related programs. Develops local contacts to further the library's function as a center for educational, cultural and general reading and access to the Internet. Submits recommendations to improve branch operations. Assists with overseeing maintenance of building and grounds. Interprets and communicates library policies and procedures to staff and customers. Provides leadership and direction for staff and training for new staff. Conducts staff evaluations. Performs related work as required. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
For the current vacancy, the employee will assist with all phases of operations at the Reference Desk. Answer reference questions and perform reader advisory services by providing appropriate reference materials. Acts as a liaison between reference department and other libraries.
NOTE: Work schedules include evening and weekend assignments; employee may also be required to adjust work hours or report to and work at the East and West bank locations as duties require or as directed. Possession of a Master's degree in Library Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.
Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate but not to exceed the listed salary range.
The examination will consist of a rating of training and experience to determine grade and rank on the eligible list. Proof of education is required in the form of college diplomas or transcripts and must be submitted to receive rank on register. Applicants must also supply complete and accurate information concerning their previous training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers, and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification. The Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience.
