Ergon Inc. is seeking a full-time Designer to join our Corporate Engineering team. The Corporate Engineering Department primarily services the asphalt and emulsions division by providing an internal resource for routine engineering and maintenance work and specified project work.
This is a technical/support position in the Corporate Engineering department of Ergon, Inc. The Designer provides CAD I Plant 30 systems design support on project and maintenance engineering and construction activities and maintains and updates facility master data. The Designer strives to continually identify and implement improved drafting and design processes to support engineering departmental and corporate goals.
This position requires a positive individual with a team-oriented attitude who works collaboratively with supervision and co-workers.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a high school diploma or GED and proficiency in computer skills with Word, Excel, and AutoCAD being preferred. A post-secondary certification or associate degree in technical drawing or similar experiences is recommended.
- Experience with operating and maintaining current AutoCAD and Plant 30 or similar design drafting software is a plus.
- Experience with concrete, structural, and piping construction, surveying, laser scanning, and drone data gathering are also a plus.
- This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong communication and organizational skills and a proven ability to perform the required duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Perform facility site visits and gather necessary information utilizing field measurements, surveying, and/or drone and laser scanning as required to best assist in scope development, project reviews, and the development of modified or new drawings for projects.
- Operate CAD systems and peripheral equipment to produce new drawings or modify existing drawings for review, approval, meetings, and/or Maintenance/Engineering files as needed. Drawing types are typically, but not limited to, P&IDs, Plot Plan/Civil, Structural/Steel, Piping Plans & Sections, Isometrics, and Tank/Vessel.
- Understand, utilize, modify, develop, and implement numbering, filing, and drafting/design procedures and standards in and for use within Ergon, Inc.
- Coordinate with other Ergon companies on CAD standards and systems to ensure consistency, take advantage of lessons learned, and prevent unnecessary rework.
- Assign and issue line numbers, valve numbers, drawing numbers, and transfer drawings, both hard copies and electronic files.
- Assist in training CAD system users in applying Ergon, Inc. drafting standards and ensuring the standards are followed.
- Monitor design and drafting procedures continually to help determine more efficient and accurate methods of completing assigned duties and share ideas in drafting/design group meetings.
- Participate in design group meetings to discuss current and completed activities, share lessons learned, determine upcoming priorities, and areas of improvement.
- Provide piping design, technical drafting, and design support on an as-needed basis to all departments and contractors.
- Prepare bill of materials to assist engineers in preparation of cost estimates for projects.
- Assist Corporate Engineering in project development and equipment specifications to ensure drafting/design interests are addressed.
- Attend, participate in, and/or lead project meetings, P&ID/Project review meetings, MOC, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
- Work with engineers and facility operations to complete projects in a timely and efficient manner with limited direction.
- Assist Corporate Engineering Department in maintaining updated drawing files for all plant master data.
- Be prepared to travel as required for field data gathering and construction auditing activities as required.
