The Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma is the number one media program in the country, as ranked by the Broadcast Education Association. We seek an outstanding creative educator-practitioner responsible for teaching and mentoring students in a highly regarded, industry-reflective advertising program.
The successful candidate will be an award-winning, industry-recognized creative design talent, responsible for preparing and delivering Strategic Communication coursework in an engaging, innovative manner. This includes visual design instruction using Adobe Creative Cloud applications (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, AfterEffects, Rush, Audition), and producing visually appealing communication created on AI-driven software and platforms. The course will guide students in developing content strategies, using digital tools such as motion graphics, animation, audio, and video, and understanding audience engagement and content marketing principles.
The candidate will join a faculty committed to creative and scholarly excellence, professional preparation, mentoring, industry connections, and experiential learning. The workload distribution is approximately 40% teaching, 40% creative activity, and 20% service. The appointment begins in August 2026.
The Gaylord College, founded in 2000 with a gift from the Edward L. Gaylord family, features state-of-the-art facilities including Gaylord Hall, expanded in 2009, and a 4,500-square-foot strategic communication area. The college offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in journalism, advertising, public relations, media arts, professional writing, and strategic communication. An MFA in creative media will launch in Fall 2026.
Qualifications:
An MFA and at least five years of professional creative advertising design experience are required. Prior teaching experience in multi-media design is preferred.
