The department also offers minors, including those in Film Studies and Professional Writing, Literacies, and Rhetoric. Learn more about the English Department atwu.edu/english.About the PositionThe First-Year Writing (FYW) Manager trains and supports our Learning Assistants (Graduate Assistants) and English 101 instructional Teaching Assistants, and assists in the administration of the First-Year Writing Program. Under a separate contract, the FYW Composition Coordinator also teaches writing courses (including English 101).Duties include:Curriculum Design+ Co-write, edit, and provide feedback on each year's curriculum+ Edit and provide feedback for curricular changes throughout the academic year+ Design and manage all ENG 101 Canvas sites, including learning modules and interactive pages+ Co-plan and co-facilitate weekly staff meetings+ Co-plan and co-facilitate our weeklong Teaching Orientation (Comp Camp)Teacher Training+ Facilitate TA grade checkouts (meeting with TAs each quarter to discuss and finalize their gradebooks)+ Plan and facilitate weekly (90min) training sessions for 1st Year Learning Assistants (LAs) who are serving as 'embedded instructional support' in ENG 101 classes+ Observe our new LAs in their classrooms, meeting with them to improve their work as embedded instructional support+ Observe ENG 101 Teaching Assistants (ENG 101 instructors of record) and meet with them to improve their classroom pedagogy+ Develop individual 'teaching plans' for both LAs and TAs+ Maintain ongoing follow-up meetings with both LAs and TAs regarding their 'teaching plans'+ Coordinate with the Library's Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning to assist in the LAs' Writing Studio trainingMaintain appropriate number of office hours to consult and troubleshoot with LAs/TAsProgram Management+ Assist TAs with technology concerns including checking out department audio/visual equipment, helping TAs design and maintain course websites, and referring TAs to the English Department IT Systems Manager or ATUS as appropriate+ Consult with the director regarding program issues that require working with entities outside of the program such as the Registrar, Student Life, Academic Affairs, CHSS, etc. Offer support as needed to the Director, who is responsible for the front-facing communication this work entails.+ Populate and maintain the English 101 Instructor Resources Canvas Page+ Assign TA teaching times each quarter+ Assign and manage office assignments+ Collect and maintain English 101 grade records+ Collect, respond to, and maintain TAs' syllabi and assignments+ Serve as advisor for the English 101 Scholar’s Week panel (scheduling room assignment for panel, registering participants with Scholar’s Week, and sending acceptance emails to panel participants)+ Manage and maintain office supplies and office spaces (including the two grad student labs)Required Qualifications+ MA or MFA in English or related field+ Experience in Instructional Design and/or Curricular Development+ Experience directing or managing small teams+ Demonstrated interest in the field of rhetoric/composition and pedagogy+ Evidence of strong teaching in first-year college writing+ Demonstrated ability and commitment to cultivate learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds.Preferred Qualifications+ Familiarity with WWU's First-Year Writing Program+ Familiarity with Universal Design principles+ Training in Instructional Design and/or PedagogyConditions of EmploymentAll employees must comply with our Immunization policies, includingProof of Rubeola Measles Immunity (wu.edu/POL-U1300.01-Requiring-Proof-Of-Rubeola-Measles-Immunity) within 60-days of hire.
