Work Days and hours would vary between: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, based on student schedule.
This is an ongoing internship located in Columbus, OH. The selected candidate will ideally be able to work throughout the school year and summer, for an average of 20 hours per week or less (with flexibility during the school semesters given class schedule and course load).
The pay rate for a college intern is based upon the students' academic status:
Undergraduate student rate of pay - $16.93 per hour
Graduate student rate of pay - $20.59 per hour
Major/field of study should be in: Geography or Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Enrollment in a GIS, geography or related undergraduate or graduated degree program in an accredited college/university and in good standing
• Completed at least one GIS class, preferable taken one course in cartography/map design, statistical analysis, and in spatial data analysis
• Experience or coursework use GIS software, creating maps and working with spatial databases
Job duties:
• Improve crash data quality by correcting crash coordinates
• Update county, district, and statewide fatal crash maps
• Update county level OVI maps
• Update maps for monthly reports such as the Monthly Statistics Comparison, Monthly Operations Report, the Criminal Patrol Monthly report, and for media bulletins

Qualifications

To be eligible for an internship opportunity at the Ohio Department of Public Safety, an applicant must:
Be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university.
Be in good standing with the college/university.
Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
Be enrolled in at least one course.
Be pursuing a degree or finishing a degree.
