Overview
Reporting to the Director of Design, the Graphic Designer is a key member of the Museum’s Design Department. The Graphic Designer provides graphic and experiential design solutions for world class exhibition projects and art gallery enhancements. Basic functions include the layout and production of graphics needs for all physical spaces in the museum.
Essential Functions:Core member of design team along with 3D Designer for assigned special exhibition projectsAssume graphic design duties for fulfilling sign requests from all areas of the Museum, including visitor services, membership, education, curatorial, programs, events, facilities, and communicationsFamiliarize self with various in-house methods and practices involved with the design, production and installation of gallery environmental graphics (labels, text panels, etc..)Assist the production staff with the preparation and installation of gallery labels, text panels, maps, museum signage, and other related didactic and graphic materials.Sharp manual skills in order to produce graphics related materials, including matte cutting and applying vinyl letteringDisplay a proficiency with Mac based graphics software including, Adobe InDesign, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe AcrobatContribute ideas and insights during Design meetings/reviews in order to implement innovations and cost-effective solutions.Fluency in ADA standards and practices in order to apply these standards to graphic design deliverablesSecondary Functions:
Familiarity and strong interest in Art History and DesignWilling to travel and research environmental/graphic designs in other museums as well as suitably related spacesQualification Requirements and Characteristics
2 years of Graphic Design experience, preferably in print and/or environmental graphic designBA in Graphic Design preferredKeen interest in Art and DesignExtensive knowledge of and experience with typographyFluency with Mac based graphics software, primarily the Adobe Creative SuiteGood manual skills including precision cutting, applying vinyl lettering, and familiarity with hand tools and electric power toolsAbility to work collaboratively, professionally, and gracefully with colleagues from many departments. Ability to communicate and troubleshoot design solutions with non-designers. Team playerA commitment to support the Museum’s values of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA)
Salary and Schedule:
Salary: $55,000 - $60,000
Full-Time, 35 hours per week
