Harcum College, a progressive, independent, associate degree granting college in Bryn Mawr, PA, has an immediate opening for a Digital and Graphic Designer. Under the direction of and reporting to the Executive Director Marketing and Communications, the position conceives and creates branded, integrated marketing communications across a variety of media and platforms. This role is chiefly responsible for the design and production of college-wide digital and print projects, particularly for recruitment. This role works closely with the communications and marketing team as well as internal constituents to deliver cohesive and on-brand marketing communications support.
Responsibilities:
- Designs and executes rough layouts through finished deliverables for a variety of digital and print marketing tactics, such as web pages and graphics, email templates, digital ads, social media graphics, postcards, brochures, flyers, posters, direct mailers, invitations, and event collateral.
- Ensures brand continuity on all Harcum marketing communications.
- Prioritizes and manages multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions, ensuring quality work from concept to completion.
- Provides the concept, design and production of Harcum’s Patches magazine.
- Creates and maintains graphic approach and all files for the College web presence.
- Provides art direction of video and photo shoots, working closely with the appropriate teams.
- Maintains in-house and web-ready photo archives, job files, electronic files, and backup of such.
- Performs photo retouching and refinement as needed.
- Supports photography services and graphic requests, both internally and externally.
- Secures bids from printers, photographers, mailing houses and other vendors, identifies cost-saving production opportunities and ensures quality work on budget and on time.
- Prepares all electronic files properly for appropriate output and handles all print production.
- Revises and supports all template-based projects.
- Engages in competitor research to inform design approach, stays informed of new design trends that can be used to engage key audiences and trends for both digital and print.
- Maintains good relationships and communications within the College community.
- Participates in departmental, staff, and divisional meetings as required.
- Assists with College events and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Proficiency across platforms with thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Quark Xpress, Microsoft Office, and other related design software and applications.
- Proficiency in digital, print and web design, layout and file production.
- Knowledge of pre-press/print production methods and printing processes.
- Knowledge of principles of design and typography.
- Experience with photography, video, and related processes.
- Experience in selection of paper, illustration, photography, and video.
- Ability to handle multiple projects, meet tight deadlines with attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Strong typing and proofreading skills.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in graphic design or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in-house or higher education.
- Digital portfolio of work showing range of tactics and creative processes.
- Experience working with CMS, CRM, social media platforms preferred.
- Experience in recruitment/development marketing preferred.
