Scout Collective designs and builds meaningful brands and digital experiences for Human Service Organizations and Social Good Initiatives. The impact of our work is growing, and we’re looking for a UX Developer + Designer to help take our digital work to the next level.
A little more about us:
We’re strategists and creatives who approach every project with curiosity and care. By bringing an outside perspective, we help clients uncover new ways to engage their communities and deepen their impact. Our team blends design, technology, data, and storytelling to articulate organizational identity, increase visibility, connect people to resources, and move them to action.
Great individually. Remarkable together.
We’re a small team that thrives on collaboration, and it shows in the results we deliver – often exceeding what’s expected from a studio of our size.
We’re equally thoughtful about building our team.
We’re committed to assembling an inclusive team of professionals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives – people who show up with energy, care, and a commitment to doing their best work. We prioritize people, and we work hard to ensure every team member feels seen, respected, and empowered to contribute – regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin, or ability.

About this role
This new position will be central to our digital design and development process. With an end-to-end understanding of how users interact with websites and how those experiences are built, the UX Developer + Designer will bridge the gap between client needs and functional, responsive front-end design + execution.
Equal parts strategic and technical, this role is ideal for someone who can lead UX thinking and build scalable, accessible WordPress websites with confidence and care.
You’ll work closely with our Digital Director and creative team to design user flows, wireframes, and systems, then bring them to life with clean page builds. Your main objective? Create purposeful, high-performing websites that support our purpose-driven clients.
Responsibilities will include:
Development & Implementation
- Build responsive websites using semantic HTML/CSS, primarily in WordPress
- Develop scalable class/ID systems and maintainable site architecture
- Create and manage custom WordPress themes and advanced plugin configurations (e.g., ACF, Pods)
Optimization & Maintenance
- Receive and implement requests for ongoing WordPress website updates and improvements
- Conduct audits and updates to improve site performance, UX, SEO, and accessibility.
- Help establish internal standards for front-end development across projects.
- Design smart, intuitive UX wireframes and user flows in Figma that reflect strategic insights, meet user needs, and push creative boundaries.
- Collaborate with team leads to define website structure, navigation, and hierarchy.
- Contribute to content planning, sitemaps, and component-driven design systems.
- Align design solutions with audience goals, accessibility standards, and responsive best practices.
- Collaborate closely with the Digital Director to ensure design consistency and technical feasibility.
- Work closely with the Digital Director and design team to translate ideas into elegant user experiences.
- Participate in internal check-ins, milestone reviews, and client presentations.
- Lead client website trainings and produce clear documentation for site editors.
- Stay current on tools, trends, UX, digital design, and front-end development techniques.

Skills & Qualifications
As a small team, we encourage creative problem-solving that originates from an appreciation for collaboration and kindness. Clever people, full of heart and new ideas, thrive in our studio.
Self-sufficiency, problem-solving, and a can-do attitude are considered requirements for everyone at Scout.
Skills:
- Craftsmanship in Code & Design
- You don’t just make things look good, but you make them work smarter .
- Creative UX Thinking
- You push past templates and trends to deliver wireframes that are not only functional but inventive. You think on behalf of the client, for their audiences.
- Builder’s Mindset
- Your approach to websites is thoughtful, inventive, and efficient. You’re not copying common freebies on Figma, but keeping structure, scalability, and future-proofing in mind.
- Clear, Proactive Communication
- Especially in a remote (or hybrid) setting, you know how to articulate ideas, ask the right questions, and keep projects moving without continual hand-holding.
- Accountability & Autonomy
- You manage your time effectively and take ownership of your work. You show up when expected, follow through on deadlines, and hold yourself to a high standard.
- Pride in Purpose-Driven Work
- You care about doing great work for good causes. Many of our clients are non-profits, and we value someone who finds meaning in helping mission-driven organizations succeed online.
Qualifications :
- 5+ years of combined experience with UX design and front-end website development
- 3+ years of experience working in Figma
- 4+ years of experience building with WordPress, including custom themes and advanced plugins
- Experience with plugins like ACF or Pods is required
- Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and semantic markup best practices
- Deep understanding of naming conventions, design tokens, and scalable class/ID systems
- A strong portfolio demonstrating creative UX thinking and technically sound website building
- An undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG)
- Experience with the Google Suite of products
- Familiarity with Asana is not required, but preferred.
This Role May Not Be a Great Fit If …
You prefer to follow strict templates over exploring creative UX solutions.
We love systems, but we also value fresh thinking. This role is for someone who wants to push UX beyond the obvious.
You’re not comfortable managing your own time or working independently.
Whether remote or in-person, autonomy is key. We trust you to lead your work without constant oversight.
You find HTML and CSS frustrating or feel it’s secondary to design.
We believe beautiful design deserves clean, intentional code. If you're not into the technical side, this role might feel like a mismatch.
You don’t enjoy working inside WordPress.
WordPress is our primary platform, and we need someone who knows it well and enjoys building with it.
You tend to overlook details in favor of speed.
We move quickly, but not at the cost of precision. We value thoughtful, polished work that scales. To do well in this role, you double-check…then triple-check the work before hitting Publish.
