Monitors students and performs a variety of clerical and instructional support tasks relating to the operation of the library. Assists in the preparation of instructional materials, works with individual or small groups of students. Performs various clerical duties and assists and supervises the actions and education of children as needed. Reports to the Principal and Media Specialist.
Essential Job Functions
Maintains accurate files of library data, vertical file materials, and all correspondence.Demonstrates the ability to operate the circulation desk.Assists in maintaining attractive bulletin boards and library displays.Correctly shelves incoming books in a timely manner. Accurately prepares magazines for shelving and maintains the back issue stacks in proper order. Conducts inventories of library materials and prepares listings of missing books and books to be discarded.Effectively supervises library activities and monitors students in the library.Demonstrates the ability to perform classroom or school-wide clerical tasks; prepares, compiles, and makes copies of instructional materials and reports, files classroom or student records, distributes textbooks and other instructional material appropriately.Demonstrates the ability to locate media materials for students and staff.Provides secretarial support by performing such duties as answering, screening and directing telephone calls; screening incoming mail; typing; developing and maintaining a central filing system; directing visitors; scheduling meetings; taking minutes, etc.Answers complaints and inquiries, or refers them to appropriate persons and/or departments; interprets school district policies, rules and regulations in response to queries.Provides responsible administrative support in such areas as compiling data, analyzing data, and preparing related statistical reports; compiles and maintains various record keeping systems including maintaining records of a confidential nature.Demonstrates the ability to perform remedial instruction or tasks to reinforce learning initiated by teacher.Exhibits the ability to work with students requiring individual or close attention, reads to children, listens to their reactions, and suggests improvements.Is effective in monitoring and assisting groups of students engaged in curriculum activities.Demonstrates the ability to observe and assist individual students that are experiencing difficulties.Demonstrates the ability to perform other classroom or school-wide clerical tasks; prepares, compiles, and makes copies of instructional materials and reports, files classroom or student records, distributes textbooks and other instructional materials appropriately.Types, completes and/or files various records and forms.Performs miscellaneous tasks such as distributing materials, escorting students to other areas of the school, etc.Operates general office equipment such as a computer, copier, laminator, and calculator.Implementing and enforcing classroom management plansMay assist students on and off of Special Needs Bus at the beginning and end of the day.Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities.Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility.Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by immediate supervisor.
Education and Experience:
Associate Degree, 60 college credit hours, or must have passed the ParaPro Exam with a high school diploma.A good knowledge of and understanding of child growth and development; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.Working knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations.General knowledge of modern office equipment such as copiers, and calculators.Knowledge of clerical functions such as typing, filing and sorting.Knowledge in the application of classroom instruction and teaching.Has knowledge of modern office practices and technology; has skill in the use of computers for word and data processing and records management.Has comprehensive knowledge of the terminology and various professional languages used within the department.Knows how to maintain effective relationships with personnel of other departments, professionals and members of the public through contact and cooperation.Knows how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
Skills/Effort:
Skill in the use of general office equipment such as calculators, computers, copiers, etc.Good written and verbal communication, organization, basic mathematical, and telephone skills.Ability to interact with co-workers, students and school staff in a courteous and professional manner.Ability to provide assistance to teachers in classroom situations.
Working Conditions:
Conducts duties in an office environment with some exposure to environmental conditions, primarily due to the outside supervision of students.Physical demands are restricted to office work requiring the lifting/moving of items weighing up to 25 pounds.Occasional local travel may be required; no overnight travel is required.Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
