Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
Position Summary
The Communications and Content Creation Manager is an 11-month position/internship in the Athletic Communications unit that will be responsible for the promotion of up to two assigned Olympic sports programs. Duties will include working with media to pitch story ideas, set up interviews and field requests; brainstorming creating and distributing content for social media; working directly with assigned head coaches and teams for ideas and to create content; drafting news releases, web stories and game notes; and leading brand management meetings with other units for planning purposes. Will also assist with Football. This position will report to the Assistant AD for Creative Strategy and Communications and is eligible for overtime pay. Strong creativity, content creation skills, teamwork, experience with social media and traditional media relations required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in a broadcast television, radio and emerging media environment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Strong communications skills required. Strong creativity, content creation skills, teamwork, experience with social media and traditional media relations required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Bachelor's Degree.M-F 9-5, night and weekend work required.
