Summary
The Medical Librarian is responsible for the day-to-day library functions of all Baptist University students, with an emphasis on graduate and medical education. The Medical Librarian will play a pivotal role in shaping library resources that meet the unique needs of our medical community and foster a culture of inquiry and scholarship. Externally, this position will work with third-party vendors and manage relationships to provide appropriate learning resources that promote the advancement of medical knowledge. Under the general supervision of the BUCOM Dean-Assistant OMS I and OMS II, the Medical Librarian will be an integral member of the Baptist Health Sciences University Library team, working synergistically with all BHSU librarians and reporting to the Health Sciences Library Supervisor. The Medical Librarian will be responsible for all functions during 8 hours/day, 5 days/week, with potential hours beyond the normal workday.
Responsibilities
- Provides research assistance; develops and reviews library policies and procedures for graduate students and medical education; coordinates the development of content and delivery of information literacy instruction; advocates for the integration of Medical Library resources and services into academic program learning outcomes.
- Procures appropriate Medical Library resources to support teaching and learning of BHSU programs curricula. Supports and tracks contracts, licenses, and purchases supporting BHSU's educational, research, and governance missions. Manages electronic resource collections to ensure online holdings are accessible on campus and remotely through all library platforms and search engines.
- Collects and analyzes usage statistics, assesses library services and programs, prepares reports, and makes strategic recommendations. Assists in financial planning, develops budgets, and monitors expenditures. Negotiates access to online databases, journals, and e-books. Researches innovative library products and services for cost-effective solutions.
- Maintains knowledge of trends in library services for graduate and osteopathic medical education, assessment, technology, and information literacy. Serves on committees, represents BHSU’s Library regionally and nationally.
- Ensures timely submission of reports for federal agencies, including the IPEDS annual library report. Participates in accreditation processes, providing documentation and meeting with accreditors as needed. Develops assessment plans with benchmarks, measurement tools, and outcomes; analyzes data to improve library services and resources.
- Performs other related responsibilities as required.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Three (3) years of experience in academic health sciences or medical education libraries.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional advanced degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical information resources and library technologies.
- Five (5) years of relevant experience in academic health sciences or medical education libraries.
