OverviewHogrefe Publishing is an international publishing group specializing in psychology and mental health. With more than 500 staff in Europe, Brazil, and the U.S., we publish psychological assessments, books, and journals.
Hogrefe Publishing has an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Books Editor to build upon and expand Hogrefe’s successful English-language book program focused on psychology, psychiatry, and psychotherapy. The Editor will be responsible for acquiring 15-20 new book manuscripts per year, collaborating with series editors, and developing a strong network of authors, editors, and other specialty advisors.
Responsibilities- Acquire 15-20 new book manuscripts per year
- Negotiate contracts in consultation with the Director, Hogrefe Publishing
- Develop and maintain network of authors and editors
- Evaluate book proposals and submitted manuscripts to determine suitability for publication
- Provide developmental support on submitted manuscripts and engage with peer reviewers
- Work with Production team to handover book projects
- Attend national and international conferences to meet with potential authors and scout new projects
- Collaborate with authors and marketing colleagues to develop marketing plans and activities, as appropriate
- At least five years of experience as an acquisitions editor, preferably managing a subject list in psychology
- Bachelor or advanced degree in psychology
- Demonstrable expertise in copyediting and proofreading, especially according to APA style
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Excellent verbal and communication skills with a higher-than average attention to detail and quality control
- Ability to work independently and achieve objectives on an annual basis
- Proficiency with MS Office suite
Base Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, and skill level.
This is a hybrid position based in our office outside of Boston, with some possible international travel. Hogrefe requires employees to be fully vaccinated and boosted per CDC recommendations, and offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, life insurance and 401K match.
