Summary
The Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a state agency serving Idahoans who are deaf or hard of hearing to improve their quality of life by providing information, serving as an advocate, and increasing services and access to those services. The Communication & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for increasing public awareness of the Idaho Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CDHH), its programs, and resources through strategic communication efforts. This role develops outreach initiatives, manages social media and digital content, and fosters relationships with stakeholders to promote accessibility awareness.
Key Responsibilities
- Public Awareness & Outreach: Develops and implements outreach strategies, organizes and represents CDHH at events, builds partnerships with community organizations and government agencies.
- Digital & Traditional Media Management: Designs and maintains the website and social media platforms, creates informational materials and multimedia content.
- Training & Public Education: Develops and delivers training sessions, facilitates workshops on deaf culture and assistive technology.
- Communications & Public Relations: Responds to inquiries, manages media relations, ensures brand consistency.
- Policy & Accessibility Awareness: Educates on legal obligations under ADA, monitors trends affecting the community.
- Technology & Research: Maintains knowledge of assistive technologies, conducts research, provides guidance on technology use.
- Other Duties: Supports virtual meetings, participates in advisory groups, and other assigned tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
- Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Deaf Studies, Public Relations, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- At least one year of experience in public speaking, communications, or outreach
- Strong communication skills, experience with social media and website content, basic knowledge of ADA laws, ability to travel, familiarity with assistive technologies, basic video editing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in related fields
- Five years of experience, advanced knowledge of ADA and accessibility, experience with graphic design and digital marketing.
