Overview
The Fleet Radio Technician supports safe and efficient fleet operations by installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting radio and GPS communication systems. Key duties include managing repair orders, maintaining inventory in Operative IQ, and ensuring functionality of vehicle hotspots and transmission systems. The role requires adherence to safety protocols, accurate documentation, and clear communication while considering the unique needs of patients and staff.
Responsibilities
- Use appropriate problem-solving approaches to plan and perform services.
- Provide services considering the physical, psycho-social, cultural/spiritual, and age-specific needs of those served.
- Possess strong knowledge of radio installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing.
- Have strong knowledge of Geotab fleet management and ambulance tracking systems.
- Process daily repair orders as appropriate.
- Maintain system records and inventory within the Operative IQ system.
- Manage communication parts and equipment within the communications stock room.
- Understand and troubleshoot internet GPS solutions with vehicle hotspots for computers and LP15 – 12-lead transmissions to emergency departments.
- Use equipment and supplies correctly.
- Follow appropriate safety and infection control measures.
- Teach, direct, advise, and inform others appropriately.
- Record and report information accurately.
- Monitor the work environment and promote employee satisfaction.
- Ensure the quality of work performed and intervene when necessary to improve services.
- Make timely decisions considering patient care, resources, employee relations, and departmental concerns.
- Maintain effective communication with administration, staff, and peers to facilitate decision-making.
- Support organizational communication with patients, physicians, visitors, and others.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid NC driver’s license with a good driving record.
- At least three (3) years of experience in two-way radio equipment repair, troubleshooting, or a combination of leadership experience and education.
- Under general supervision, perform skilled tasks related to technical and user support, including troubleshooting and repair of: VHF and UHF equipment, Motorola 7/800 MHz systems, two-way radios, antenna systems, alert pagers, portables, mobiles, vehicle equipment, bases, control stations, tower sites, 911 dispatch consoles, duplex operation, and related telecommunications equipment.
Physical Requirements
Must have mobility to respond quickly to emergencies, with the ability to walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions. Manual dexterity and visual acuity are required to trace and repair color-coded wiring systems. The role involves heavy physical effort, occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force, frequently up to 50 pounds, and constantly up to 20 pounds. May involve contact with blood and other potentially infectious materials, with a potential risk of exposure to communicable diseases.
