Job Description
FCA is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Planning & Urban Design team based in NY.
The successful candidate will contribute to urban planning, urban design, campus planning, and architectural conceptual design projects. They will be involved in all stages of the project life cycle including documentation of existing conditions, primary research, benchmarking, analysis, development of options, conceptual design, and documentation of recommendations through the production of graphics, diagrams, reports, studies, and presentations. Responsibilities
Support senior staff in the research, development, and documentation of:
Urban Design Studies (e.g., streetscape, public space, and master plans, etc.) Urban Planning Studies (e.g., Arts & Culture, Placemaking, Innovation, Zoning, etc.) Institutional, Higher Education & Campus Planning Studies (e.g., master plans, departmental studies, building feasibility, conceptual design, space programming, strategic plans, etc.)
Work with senior staff, colleagues, consultants, and clients to:
Research and document existing physical/spatial conditions Attend meetings and document outcomes, actions, and decisions Gather, analyze, and assess quantitative and qualitative data Facilitate group charrettes, community workshops, focus groups, and stakeholder interviews Develop planning approaches and physical design strategies Create plans, maps, graphics, and presentation materials Prepare reports for public agencies, commissions, elected officials, etc. Prepare materials for qualifications and proposals (RFQ/RFP)
Job Requirements
Bachelor of Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, or related field (or equivalent experience) Must be local to NY office 1-2 years of experience in urban design, planning or related field is preferred Proficient at Research and Comparative Analysis Demonstrated experience applying the principles and practices of urban planning and design as they relate to development, zoning, streetscapes and public space design Knowledge and experience with development regulations, master plans, strategic plans, and growth and development trends, other long range planning efforts Knowledge, experience, and interest in planning and/or design for institutions, higher education, corporations, and other campus typologies Progress toward (and ability to obtain) professional registration (e.g., AIA, ASLA or AICP) Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and/or projects Ability to gather and assess information, define parameters for success, develop actionable recommendations, and apply creativity to problem solving. Excellent written, graphic, and oral communication skills Utilizes good judgment, tact, and diplomacy in all interactions (internal and external) Strong Communication, Organizational, Critical Thinking and Design Sensibility Data Analysis including Advanced use of MS Excel Excellent Graphic Communication and use of Adobe Creative Suite (INDD, AI, PSD, etc.) Software Proficiency & Skills
Basic Proficiency with Revit AutoCAD/ BIM / Revit GIS Experience Preferred 3d Modeling: SketchUP and/or Rhino Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat) Rendering: Vray, Enscape, Podium, or 3dMax, etc. Sketching, Drawing & Hand Drafting MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) MS Teams
