About the Role: The Digital Communications Specialist for King County Parks is responsible for overseeing and managing the park system's digital communication platforms, including social media channels such as Facebook and Instagram and for managing, updating, and maintaining Parks' pages on King County's website. This role will also need to stay updated on trends across the digital landscape and develop best practices and standards. The Digital Communications Specialist will collaborate closely with the Communications Manager and the communications team to lead digital strategy and execute multi-faceted communication campaigns, focusing on digital content creation, storytelling, social media engagement, and advertising. This position performs work remotely and onsite.
About the Team: The Digital Communications Specialist is a part of the Community Engagement team. The goal of the team is communicating, trust-building, and representing community needs to ensure parks are welcoming and accessible to all communities in King County, particularly communities of greatest need. We aim to help reduce barriers and foster a sense of belonging for all people to access nature, the outdoors and recreation and believe in the importance of parks and recreation for peoples' mental, physical, and emotional health.

, and growth opportunities. Job Duties What You Will Be Doing
: Coordinate King County Parks' digital communications across a variety of tools including social media (Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok), GovDelivery e-newsletters, WordPress blog, PublicInput surveying platform, the Parks division's pages on the King County SiteCore website, and more. Create compelling and thoughtful written and visual content (video or graphics) both independently and in collaboration with Parks staff or community members. Support multi-pronged digital communications strategies tailored to each platform's audiences and strengths with communications and community engagement team members. Expand King County Parks' reach to new audiences, particularly BIPOC, youth, English as a second language, non-English speaking communities, and communities residing in unincorporated King County via digital communications platforms. Monitor engagement on social media and regularly analyze data on digital communication tools to determine areas of success and improvements. Continually maintain King County Parks' web pages, ensuring content is accurate and up to date.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Qualifications You Bring
: Highly effective oral and written communication including preparing and delivering presentations, writing effective reports and correspondence for a variety of audiences, and communicating technical information to non-technical staff. Experience applying equity and racial and social justice principles that exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices to all aspects of the work and work environment. Experience in the multi-channel digital communications space working on social media management, email marketing, maintaining blogs, or comparable experience. Experience with content management systems and overseeing or maintaining websites. Ability to create new web page templates using basic HTML code. Experience overseeing digital communications plans and strategies from individual projects to annual plans. Ability to stay updated on current digital media trends.

: Basic graphic design skills using applications like Adobe Creative Suites or Canva. Video editing and photography experience. Familiarity with search engine optimization (SEO) best practices. Experience with paid digital advertising on a variety of platforms. Strong relationship-building skills to be used for digital media outlets and influencers. Fluency in a King County Tier 1 or 2 language (Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Somali, Russian, Korean, Ukrainian, Tagalog, Amharic, or Arabic).
Supplemental Information Working Conditions: Remote and Onsite Work Details:
Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with onsite reporting requirements typically 1-3 times a month. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104) or various Parks locations throughout King County for site visits. This work arrangement promotes work-life-balance and reduces carbon footprint under the department's vision of Green Where We Work. Remote Work Location Requirement:
Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements. Work Schedule:
This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is required to work on occasional evenings and weekends. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible. Union Representation
