Role Summary
We are seeking a talented and versatile Audio Software Engineer to join our Infotainment Platform group. In this generalist role, you will play a critical part in developing and integrating the entire audio software stack for Rivian and Volkswagen Group vehicles. This position offers a unique opportunity to work across diverse technologies, from the Android and Linux operating systems to dedicated audio DSPs, while ensuring the highest standards of safety and inter-ECU communication. Responsibilities
- Full Audio Stack Development: Design, develop, and integrate audio software components across Android, Linux, and DSP environments within the automotive infotainment system.
- System-Level Debugging: Lead and contribute to complex system-level debugging efforts for audio features, identifying root causes across hardware, software, and network layers.
- Safety-Critical Audio Features: Implement and validate audio features with safety-critical requirements, ensuring compliance with automotive industry standards.
- Inter-ECU Communication: Develop and optimize software for robust audio communication and synchronization between various Electronic Control Units (ECUs) in the vehicle.
- Performance & Quality: Optimize audio software for performance, latency, power efficiency, and overall sound quality.
- Driver & Firmware Development: Contribute to the development and integration of audio drivers, firmware, and low-level software components.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with hardware engineers, acoustics specialists, UX/UI designers, and other software teams (e.g., vehicle networking, system integration) to deliver a cohesive and high-quality audio experience.
- Documentation & Best Practices: Maintain clear technical documentation and advocate for best practices in software development and quality assurance.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Audio Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in audio software development, preferably in an embedded or automotive context.
- Strong Programming Skills: Proficiency in C/C++.
- System-Level Debugging: Proven ability to debug complex issues across software and hardware boundaries in embedded systems.
- Automotive Systems Familiarity: Understanding of automotive electrical/electronic architectures and communication principles.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of collaborating effectively with diverse teams.
- Experience with safety-critical software development processes (e.g., ISO 26262).
- Familiarity with inter-ECU communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet, SOME/IP, gPTP).
- Experience working on consumer or automotive audio. Great if you have experience working on Linux / Android audio subsystems.
- Knowledge of audio codecs and audio post-processing algorithms.
- Experience with Qualcomm Snapdragon automotive platforms.
- Prior experience with vehicle bring-up and validation.
Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: 186,000 USD - 232,000 USD (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment.
