The Role
Lumen's Enterprise User Experience Design & Research Team is seeking a Lead User Experience Designer with a solid foundation in UX. This position will have a tremendous opportunity to directly influence and lead the user experience and strategy for the team/area they support.
The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment that requires self-direction, strong problem-solving skills, and innovative thinking paired with effective collaboration and clear communication. This individual is both highly analytical and highly creative with solid presentation skills. They can juggle multiple projects while delivering high-quality work and can justify their design decisions through clearly articulated rationale backed by user-centered design techniques and methodologies.
The Main Responsibilities
- Identify new problems, opportunities, and desired outcomes for your team to solve.
- Implement differentiating customer experience initiatives, tools, and processes, including customer experience testing.
- Perform customer and market research, analyzing data to understand customer segments, trends, needs, and expectations, developing draft application models, and templates to meet user needs.
- Push for strategic research that will help share the areas you support.
- Provide mentoring and coaching to more junior designers.
- Understand the importance of research, design thinking, and storytelling in determining design solutions.
- Effectively collaborate with Product and Development partners to bring experiences to life.
- Design simple and elegant experiences for complex solutions.
- Advocate for Lumen's end-users throughout the entire product development lifecycle.
- Establish, document, and validate design assumptions.
- Maintain and suggest evolutions of our design principles and existing style guides with a holistic consideration of our future experiences.
- Juggle multiple projects and partner with stakeholders to set clear expectations around timelines and deliverables.
What We Look For in a Candidate
- 8+ years of user-centered design techniques and methodologies.
- Bachelor's Degree in User Experience, Interaction Design, Human Factors, Psychology, or a related field.
- A portfolio or case study that demonstrates your experience.
- A robust set of tactical user experience skills, solid strategic influence, and understanding of visual/UI design.
- Ability to rapidly understand project requirements and accurately list trade-offs.
- Expert-level understanding of design principles, including best practices for inclusive design/accessibility, mobile, and responsive web design.
- Confidence in your design decisions and ability to communicate them with stakeholders in accessible language.
- Ability to diverge and converge on ideas quickly and effectively.
- Ability to solicit feedback from other designers and teach methods and benefits of good critique.
- Comfort in driving and facilitating conversations/interviews/workshops with stakeholders to understand the problem space and users.
- Ability to socialize learnings with the rest of the team in a thoughtful, articulate way to enhance understanding of products and users.
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
Location Based Pay Ranges:
$103,711 - $138,281 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$108,896 - $145,195 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$114,082 - $152,109 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
