The Associate Librarian for Public Services is responsible for enhancing the library’s impact on its patrons through research support, marketing/outreach, and oversight of access services. The Associate Librarian remains current on trends in legal information and technology and works closely with other librarians and the Director of the Law Library in the performance of his/her duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide individual legal research support to students and faculty in the School of Law and other areas of the university, both virtually and in person
- Coordinate the library’s efforts to orient law students to library resources and services and develop their legal research skills
- Manage and support two Circulation Supervisors, who, along with 15 student assistants, perform the library’s access services functions
- Communicate effectively with users to discern their needs and help them achieve their goals
- Coordinate library outreach services to law student organizations
- Author research guides, finding aids, and instructional materials
- Train and support faculty research assistants as needed
- Design and conduct library programs and tours
- Collaborate with other librarians in collection management decisions
- Contribute to a culture characterized by commitments to organizational learning, responsible innovation, and shared ownership of the library’s emerging role in legal education
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
- Work experience in a law library or other setting that involves legal research, preferred
- Master of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) from an ALA-accredited library school, or equivalent, preferred
- Supervisory experience, preferred
